Energy

Part of a sustainable energy solution

As part of a sustainable energy solution, forest residues are an important part of the future energy transition.

Grot, or 'branches and tops', is a so-called third product range after timber and pulpwood. In simple terms, 'grot' is the logging residues that are left on the forest floor if only the stem wood is removed. When harvesting sprouts, it is of great importance that nature and environmental values are also taken into account. This means, among other things, that at least 20 percent of the branches and tops should be left on the site. It is particularly important to leave coarse branches and tops from pine and deciduous trees.

Other energy products we use are residual products from sawmills, known as by-products. Sawdust, dry chips and bark in various mixtures are such examples.

Frödinge Hällerum AB buys and sells all types of energy produced by the forest on the market. On the majority of the area that we rejuvenate, grot is extracted, which is then chipped and delivered to several boilers, including Vimmerby Energi. Frödinge Hällerum AB also supplies the village of Frödinge with local heating through the boiler that also heats both our premises and timber dryers.
